Crochet Soap Saver

A fun and easy crochet soap saver pattern with a scrubby puff stitch texture. Perfect for making expensive artisan soaps last longer! Features a hanging loop for drying.

Equipment

  • 5mm crochet hook
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Materials

  • Lily Sugar 'n Cream cotton yarn or any worsted weight cotton yarn

Instructions

  • 1. Make a slipknot and chain 15 (adjust chain length to be about half inch wider than your soap).
    2. Skip the first chain, work 1 single crochet (sc) in each chain across (14 sc total).
    3. Turn the corner: work 2 more sc in the last chain, rotate work, then sc along the underside of the chain (14 sc). You'll have 30 sc total around.
    4. Begin working in a spiral. Place a stitch marker at the first stitch of round 2. Work 1 sc in each sc around for 4 rounds total.
    5. Begin puff stitch section: Chain 1, skip marked stitch. *Yarn over, insert hook, pull up a loop* 3 times in next stitch, yarn over and pull through all 7 loops. Chain 1.
    6. Continue puff stitch pattern: Skip 1 stitch, work puff in next stitch, chain 1. Repeat around.
    7. Work puffs into chain-1 spaces from previous round, continuing in a spiral for 5 rounds of puffs total.
    8. Level off the top: Work 1 dc in next chain space, 1 hdc in marked stitch, 1 sc in next space.
    9. Work 2 rounds of sc (1 sc in top of each puff and 1 sc in each chain space).
    10. On round 3, fold piece flat to find center 3 stitches. Work to center, chain 3, skip 3 stitches, sc in next stitch (this creates the closure hole).
    11. Continue to back center. Chain 15 for hanging loop, skip 1 stitch, sc in next stitch.
    12. Complete the round in sc. Work one more round, putting 3 sc into the chain-3 opening and 15 sc into the hanging loop chain space.
    13. Slip stitch in next couple stitches, fasten off, and weave in ends.

Notes

To use: Place soap inside and pull the hanging rope through the hole at the top to close. Hang to dry between uses.
Adjust chain length for larger soaps. Adjust hanging loop length (chain more or fewer than 15) based on preference.
